This Privacy Policy explains how Eat Out Oz (“outtoeat”, “we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use outtoeat.com.au (the “Site”).
We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
1. Information we collect
From diners (visitors browsing or booking)
- Search activity — suburbs, cuisines, and occasions you search for, used to return relevant results and improve the Site.
- Booking details (if you book a table through the Site) — name, email address, phone number (optional), and party size, which are shared with the relevant restaurant to fulfil your booking.
- Click activity — when you click through to get directions or find a restaurant's website, we log that a click occurred (which restaurant, what type of click) for restaurant reporting and, in future, for click-based billing to subscribing restaurants. We do not track you individually across other websites.
From restaurants (subscribers)
- Business name, contact details, description, current specials, social media and website links, and photos submitted through the restaurant portal.
- Billing information, handled directly by our payment processor, Stripe (see Section 4 — we do not store your card details ourselves).
Automatically collected
- Standard technical data such as IP address (used for approximate location to show relevant nearby results and to prevent abuse of our search feature), browser type, and device type.
2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Return relevant search results and estimate your approximate location for search bias
- Facilitate table bookings between you and a restaurant
- Allow restaurants to manage their listing, specials, and subscription
- Monitor and prevent abuse of our search API (e.g. rate limiting)
- Improve the Site and understand how it's used
- Communicate with you about your booking or subscription, where relevant
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. Restaurant data sourced from Google
Much of the restaurant information shown on outtoeat (names, addresses, ratings, opening hours, price levels) is retrieved live from the Google Places API and is not stored by us beyond your browsing session, except where a restaurant has separately claimed and subscribed to a listing. This data is subject to Google's own privacy practices, available at policies.google.com/privacy.

We only share the minimum information necessary with each provider to deliver the relevant part of the Site.
5. Data storage and security
- Booking and subscription data is stored in a secured, access-controlled database.
- Payment details are handled entirely by Stripe and never pass through or are stored on our own servers.
- We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
6. Data retention
We retain booking and subscription records for as long as necessary to provide the service and to meet our legal and accounting obligations. You can request deletion of your personal information at any time (see Section 8).
7. Cookies
The Site may use cookies or similar local storage for basic functionality (such as remembering your search filters during a session). We do not currently use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
8. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your personal information, subject to any legal obligations we have to retain it

9. Children's privacy
The Site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
